#35 - clean out and organize lower kitchen cupboards · 1 September 08
This was another one I didn't want to really do. I have a tendancy to be a pack rat. Or maybe a hoarder. Not to insane extents, but enough that I have magazines that I bought when I first moved thinking that I might need them! Yah, no. I was pretty ruthless when I cleaned them out. I keep mostly crafty stuff in the cupboards, so I chucked things I either had never used, or things I hadn't used since this spring. So that was a lot of stuff.
I also took this opportunity to organize all my bills. I still was holding on to cable bills from when I lived in Edmonton! That was good, I got to have a shredding(ish) party when I was done!
Now they are organized and almost empty! Woo! Room for more stuff!!
#77 - Spend the day at the Glenbow Museum · 30 August 08
Spent a Saturday at the Glenbow Museum and as always I wore the wrong shoes. I have memories of going to the museum as a kid with my family. At least I think it was the Glenbow. All I can really remember is their WWI (or maybe WWII) exhibit. They had this dog that was stuffed and I specifically remember him because he had this burn mark on his back because he was in the kitchen and soup was spilled on him. The dog wasn't there anymore and I was a little sad by that.
They do have an interesting exhibit called Mavericks: An Incorrigible History of Alberta. It's about the people who made Alberta what it is from David Thompson to the mayor of Calgary who brought the Olympics here in '88.
For it being a museum in the middle of white Canada they had an awful lot of Asian and African artifacts. There was this one sculpture of a Tibetan Buddist goddess, Palden Lhamo, she looked terrifying. She symbolizes the strength which each human requires to confront and overcome his or her own negative emotions. I don't know. Something about her struck a chord in me. I also touched the oldest thing I have ever touched. They had a portion the bottom of what Buddha statue would sit on. It was carved in the 9th century. I touched it, then thought "Crap! Am I allowed to do that?" but no one yelled at me, so I figured it was ok.
By the time I got to the 4th floor all I cared about was the minerals. That's what I took pictures of. Some of them are really weird. The nerd in me enjoyed seeing where they were harvested from. My knees hurt so much from standing for 5 hours, all I wanted to really do was go home and sit!
#34 - Cleanup and organize laptop · 25 August 08
This was completed not as I expected it to be. I bought an iPod from a guy at work and in trying to get freaking iTunes to work with my computer ended up reformatting and reinstalling everything.
Before I did this I sorted through all the crap that I had on this laptop. I deleted a bunch of pictures and stored the "good" ones on a DVD. I did the same for most of my music, burning DVD's of music that I have downloaded. I didn't bother burning music that I already have on CD. I also burned about 10 DVD's of tv shows and movies that are gathering dust on the ol' hard drive. I was also able, in the reinstallation, to get rid of some of the crap programs that I have used once, but never uninstalled.
